ICIP:  The International Consortium for

Intergenerational Programmes

 The International Consortium for Intergenerational Programmes (ICIP) is the only international membership organisation focused solely on promoting intergenerational programmes, strategies and public policy from a global perspective.  Launched at an international meeting of intergenerational specialists in The Netherlands in October 1999, ICIP represents the culmination of the vision and work of many people who saw the importance of bringing together policy makers, academics and practitioners to promote intergenerational practice.  

Aims

 q  To promote and develop intergenerational programmes and practices nationally and internationally. q  To develop a systematic approach to understanding why intergenerational programmes and practices work. q  To promote the importance of intergenerational programmes and practices as agents for global social change.  

Activities

 To achieve its aims, ICIP will be involved in a range of activities.  These will include: q  holding a biennial international conference q  producing a regular newsletter q  developing a website q  producing a database of members’ programmes and interests. As ICIP develops, this range of activities may expand. 
 

Membership

 ICIP is a membership organisation.  Members support the work of ICIP and can provide direct input into ICIP’s activities.  In addition, Members will have access to a range of support and services, including: q  a discount on subscriptions to the Journal of Intergenerational Relationships, an international journal of programme development, research and public policy q  information provided via ICIP’s website, regular newsletter and database of members’ programmes and interests q  opportunities to meet with and learn from others interested in intergenerational programmes and practices internationally. There are two categories of membership:  Individual and Organisational. The General Meeting of the membership is held annually on-line.  The business at this meeting includes the election of Management Committee members if positions have fallen vacant.  

The Management Committee

 The Management Committee consists of a minimum of five and a maximum of fifteen members.  A maximum of two members may come from the same country.  The term of office is four years.  Members may stand for election for two consecutive terms of office after which they must stand down for a period of at least two years before seeking re-election.  If a vacancy arises between general meetings the Committee may co-opt to fill the vacancy but the position must be offered for open election at the next General Meeting. At its meeting following the General Meeting the Committee will elect its Honorary Officers.  These will be:  Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer. Their term of office will be two years, and they may be re-elected whilst they remain members of the Management Committee. ICIP is constituted under Dutch law and the formal constitution is in Dutch.
